The traditional process of hand block printing on textiles is being practiced in India for about 600 years. Various styles have been developed so far like Bagh, Kalamkari, Ajrag, Dabu, etc. The colours used are mostly plant-based dyes. The print actually starts with drawing a design on a paper which is then meticulously carved into a Sheesham wood block.
The block is then dipped in the natural dye and then stamped on the fabric. Entire process requires a lot of patience as each colour pattern is individually stamped on to the fabric and requires a lot of persistent efforts and time. The ultimate outcome of this intricate labour is a wonderful and timeless beauty with a personal touch.
